Q. How should I handle ghost peppers or seeds?

A. Handle with caution! Ghost pepper fruit and seeds are extremely hot and should be handled with the utmost care. Use gloves when handling peppers or seeds to avoid contact with skin, and do so in a well-ventilated area. Also, it's good to use dedicated or disposable utensils because of the pepper's potent oils. After handling, wash your hands thoroughly, and do not touch your skin for awhile as oils can linger even after cleaning. 

Q. Are there special instructions for germinating ghost pepper seeds and starting these plants?

A. Yes, sow seeds about 1/4 inch deep; soil should remain moist but not too soggy. Optimal conditions: kept at 80-85 degrees F in 70-90% relative humidity. Sprouts typically occur in 30 days but may take up to 40+ days. Young plants can tolerate slightly cooler temperatures but best in warm, humid conditions with little to partial sun. These plants tend to grow slowly so be patient, and do not try to rush flowering; they generally need at ~150-180 days before producing peppers.

Q. Will you refund or replace seeds if they do not germinate?

A. When you germinate your seeds, unfortunately we cannot guarantee your success. However, we do assure that our seeds are viable. Keep in mind that this pepper is NOT recommended for the novice gardener, and you must have a proper, controlled environment for plants to thrive.

Q. How often should I water my ghost pepper plants?

A. A good rule of thumb is to water them once the soil is nearly dry. Plants do not like to be completely dried out, although constantly moist soil may breed undesirable fungi. The amount of water needed will depend on actual conditions in your garden or designated planting area.

Q. What kind of fertilizer should I use on my ghost pepper plants?

A. For ghost peppers, a balanced fertilizer (such as 10-10-10) for growing stages has produced good results with our plants. For well-established plants during the blooming stage, fish bone meal fertilizer (such as 3-16-0) works well, too.
